For a long time, the concept of integration was explained solely through the word “adaptation.”
However, adaptation is one-sided; it implies that one party becomes similar to the other.
To us, integration means creating meaning together, learning how to live together, and contributing to one another mutually.
As Kompass für Integration e.V., we aim to make this mutual learning process a natural part of social life. Because we believe that true integration becomes possible not merely when different backgrounds coexist within a society, but when they transform one another.
Building Social Connections
Society is shaped by the ways people come into contact with one another. We believe that integration is strengthened by getting to know each other, listening to each other, working together and sharing.
A migrant child being able to express themselves at school, a local resident finding the courage to start a conversation with a newcomer, a volunteer taking part in an intercultural event… Each of these is a way of building a connection.
When these connections are established, the social fabric becomes both more flexible and more resilient. Our association aims to create regular spaces for interaction in social, cultural, and digital environments in order to strengthen this fabric.
Cultural and Social Dimension
Culture is not only about art or traditions. It is also the language of living together. As Kompass für Integration e.V., we highlight this unifying aspect of culture.
Workshops where individuals from different backgrounds engage in joint production, story-sharing days, multilingual reading activities, and cultural dialogue meetings are examples of this approach.
Social cohesion begins with empathy. For this reason, our association strives to create safe spaces for communication within local communities and to plan face-to-face meetings and joint projects that reduce prejudice.
Rather than seeking to eliminate ‘difference’, we aim to grow stronger together through it.Digital Dimension
In today’s world, social connections are not formed only in physical spaces. Integration has also become a matter of screens, platforms, and virtual communities.
Our association views the digital sphere as a place of encounter as well. Through online events, digital mentoring, virtual workshops, and interactive seminars, we both reduce distances and increase participation.
Beyond seeing technology merely as a means of communication, we also regard it as an opportunity for equal access and participation. Because when used correctly, technology has the potential to become one of the most inclusive bridges of integration.
Together Toward a Better Future
For us, the ultimate goal of integration is not “becoming similar,” but being able to understand one another. Our path runs through understanding people, producing together, and making decisions together. With every step we take, we envision a more just, more inclusive, and more hopeful future.
Come, let us think together, produce together, and grow together.
